KINDLY SHARED BY MAVIS WALKER ON 28 NOVEMBER 2024
I have some sad news as I report the passing of Roy Hunt on 15th November in a Nursing Home in Melbourne, Australia. Those of you who worked at High Street, Coventry in the late 1950s/early 1960s will remember Roy as one of the young men (and women) who kept the business of the Bank going in those far off days, of seeing and talking with customers, by being on the counter, balancing the ledgers and all those things that computers do for us now.
Roy eventually left the Bank and emigrated to Australia where he worked for Melbourne University and met Julie who became his companion. They travelled all over the world together, including back to the UK where Michael and I had the pleasure of meeting up with them, along with Tom Bellamy, Pam Sarson (Bruce’s widow) and Wendy Rotherforth (nee Pittam). We actually visited Australia in 2008 and met up with Roy and spent a lovely day at his home “in the Bush” some 70 miles north of Melbourne, watching the local kangaroos grazing in the afternoon sunshine on the hill alongside his house. An idyllic spot - as far away from Coventry (and Banking) as you could imagine!
