KINDLY SHARED BY GORDON KERSHAW ON 27 NOVEMBER 2023
Alan joined Midland in September 1957 shortly after I had started National Service. We started Night School together in 1959 studying for the 'Bank Exams'.He worked all his life in London division of the then Midland Bank. He was a very good and compulsive cricketer and played for the bank for many years and had the unusual distinction of being mentioned in a book the late David Roberts wrote, another former colleague, about the then bank cricket team as having taken over 1000 wickets in his career with the bank including around 10 years playing fo the 'First 11'. He was a lifelong avid supporter of Chelsea.
He had been fighting the inevitable difficulties of a cancer diagnosis for the past five years and participated in a 3 year drug trial before his death in July in hospital. Prior to his illness we had played golf together over many years of happy retirement.
Aileen was at his side when he passed away.
